Looks like I misread the invoice, and took the ship date for the arrival date. Still though, now I know when to expect 45 pounds of kagerou number one-y goodness.
I will have to send them out in batches, as I will need to do a significant number of sketches. People who also ordered studio stuff will get the first ones so I can also send out their items, and then I'll just do the rest by chronological order.
Getting pretty excited now...
My proposal is to see Sherlock Holmes on the evening of Christmas Day (This Friday, December 25h):
Creve Coeur 12 Cinema: 7:30pm (Costumes are encouraged, but not required.)
I'm going to recommend acquiring tickets in advance.
Who will join us?

We've been seated with a nice British family for dinner -- a married couple, their two daughters, and his father. Mom prefers the fixed seating, so she can get to know some other travelers. Monday was a casual-dress night, and last night was formal dress; my good suit has gotten a bit looser since the last time I wore it, and I'm tempted to spend some quality time with my belt and Swiss army knife.
We spent yesterday at Half Moon Cay. I think most Caribbean cruise lines' "private islands" are just enclaves on larger island, but Holland America seems to own all of Half moon. We ran into a bit of time confusion yesterday. Two ships were at Half Moon yesterday; the Prinsendam (our ship) and the Statendam. For some reason, the Prinsendam had set clocks forward an hour the night before; the Statendam hadn't, and the island was operating on Statendam time. Plus, our ship was late getting to the island, throwing scheduled excursions out of whack. The weather was cloudy, and a bit cooler than we would have liked.
At any rate, the island doesn't have a full ship dock, so we had to shuttle over to the island on tenders. We caught the first tender over so that Mom could claim the cabana we'd reserved, and Dad and I rushed over for the first Aqua Trax Adventure excursion we could make. It was a guided ride on Sea-Doos. It was my first time on one of those little craft, but I picked it up pretty easy. Despite a little engine trouble at one point, I had a lot of fun playing Wave Race for reals.
After our Aqua Trax fun, we found Mom at the cabana, and had a lunch of chips and fruit that had been left for us, and then headed back to the main plaza because we thought it was time for our next excursions. That's when we found out about the time difference, and that we were an hour early. Mom and Dad decided just to rest at the plaza instead of going back out to the cabana; I just wandered around a little bit.
Time for our excursions did roll around eventually. Mom took a glass-bottom boat tour, and Dad and I took a boat out to a small reef area for snorkeling, which was another first for me. It was pretty neat seeing the fish in their natural habitat. I had a single-use waterproof camera that I'll probably have developed once I'm back home. When we got back to the dock, Mom was back from her excursion, and we decided we were ready to tender back to the ship to rest before getting ready for formal dining night.
Today has been a pretty quiet at-sea day; tomorrow, we dock at Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

Merry Christmas! Let's all jingle those bells!
And here's two icons to celebrate:
Dress warmly and in your finest. Though I trust none of you need to be reminded of this, as we will be visiting museums in the nation's capital, do not bring any props or accessories that either are or could be mistaken for weapons or dangerous devices (whether functioning or not). Security is very concerned about things of that nature, and I'm certain we can all understand their position. When in doubt, leave it at home. All you need to bring are your charming selves and your lovely Victorian clothes.
For the first time since May, my sleeping schedule has gotten wonky again. Only for the past 5 days or so, but I am determined to not let it slip any further.
Looking forward to the three-day snowstorm Santa has decided to drop off under my tree. Muahaha.

This is a gorgeous necklace made up of layers of chains in various textures and tones, combined with a vintage pendant with pearls and rhinestones, a vintage locket with a gorgeous aged patina, and a very cool, very tiny little vintage pocket watch. The back has been removed to show the movement and gears inside, but the front is equally aesthetically appealing and as the chain hangs free, the watch can be worn with either front or back prominently displayed.

My friend gave me a $25 gift card to Cracker Barrel (and barrel will never look spelled right to me, even though it is) and a cute bit of art of a girl holding a hedgie. *squee!* She knows me so well. ♥ ♥ ♥ I'll probably not spend the gift card on food. They always have some cool stuff in the General store that I want. Maybe I'll put it towards a rocking chair. ^_^

The new mold that I made to go with the dragon was a kitsune. I kept it simple and round... with the exception of the ears. They stick out. I tried making fox ears that layed against the head, but it just didn't look right. I worry that this may have been a mistake, because I don't think that it will be very nice to use as soap with ears sticking out. I also worry that though I made them fairly thick, that when cast as soap they may be rather breakable. Could be a problem for demolding and shipping :-/
Another issue that I ran into was that I used all the rest of the silicone that I had left. It was *just* enough to cast this second mold. The bottom of the mold is very thin along the bottom, with the deepest part of the mold being a mere 1/16-1/8 inch thick. This won't effect the soap itself, but I fear that the mold may not be very durable. If it lasts through 15 castings I'll be surprised. (I made over 100 dragons on the first dragon mold. It's still holding together, but it was a very thick mold.) Until I get my soap supplies I won't know the final weight on the kitsune, though I did try and keep it of a similar volume to the dragon. The dragon casts a soap that's 4.3-4.5oz.
Between the fragile mold and concern about the ears, this may end up being a very very limited edition soap. When I finally get my soap supplies, I'm going to cast a single kitsune, see how it demolds, then try and break off its ears. Depending on how easily they snap, I'll decide whether or not it's something that can actually be sold or not. I have no doubt I'll be able to snap them off, but it is going to depend on how much effort it takes. If it takes a bit of effort, then they'll probably ship just fine :-)

Apologies on the lack of art posted to this journal of late. Most of what I've been doing the past few months has been exclusively book related. I'd prefer that much of the book be a surprise. :-) Once I finish, I hope to resume normal sketch posts and the like. For now, everyone gets to deal with mah craft binge instead! :-)

(yes, addicted is the exact word...I admit it)
Interesting thing, the guild I was in at first was small, but very nice & friendly & helpful. Especially the two people running it. They helped teach me the actual mechanics of the game, the concepts of it and helped me level my first 2 toons up to 80. By that point, I was a guild officer. Small, so never had to do anything, but still a kind of honor.
But then they both took their main toons out to put into raiding guilds.
Then one took ALL of his out. Then the actual guild owner got to the point where she logged on for about an hour. Once every two weeks. Basically, sad as it seems, they abandoned their own guild. That bummed me out, because I really like them, as people. (We even met up in Toronto for dinner once)
BUT, I finally gave in to the "It's dead, Jim" truth, and Darkmoon and I switched to a different one.
Called "ShortBusCrew".
Not all that big, but with a solid core group of at least 10 players who are all all the time and love to not only do Heroics and Raids, but also help the new guys get up to speed (instead of just abandoning them).
And they're all a bunch of smartasses.
I'm home. :)
To sum it up, at the one year mark, I've got 182 achievements on my Death Knight. Most are the leveling related and solo-related ones. BUT, of those 182, 54 have been obtained in the last 2 weeks with the new guild.
In other words, I've gotten roughly 1/6 of my achievements in 1/24th of the time I've been playing. And they're the harder ones: Level 80 dungeons (and on Heroic setting) and a bunch of "Kill this boss on Heroic setting in X amount of time or while not letting him/her do X".
So, to the WBS guys: Sorry, love you guys but it finally got to the point where it wasn't like being in a guild, just solo play.
To the SBC guys: You rawk my world. :D

You take away my dog over my mangled corpse.
In a search to understand just what makes steampunk costumes steampunk -- outside of actual pieces of faux technology, e.g. brass ray guns -- I've seen certain symbols: cogs, gears, watch faces, watch fiddly bits, keys, locks. To a lesser extent I have seen compass roses, compass faces, clock hands. It's also usual in jewelry in decoration to see coiled wire, with the occasional ship's wheel and (for some reason) the octopus. (All hail the octopus.)
There is another class of symbols that don't seem to be drawn upon for steampunk identifiers: the square and compass, the sun, the moon, scales, or the phoenix -- which are all masonic symbols. Freemasonry was a prestige club in Victorian England (or so I understand) and it seems like these "symbols of devising" would fit in with steampunk. But so far I have not seen any. Has anybody run across any of them in their steampunk wanderings?
(Also... has anybody seen Illuminati symbols worked in to steampunk costumes, like the eye in the pyramid?)
Thanks.
I pray that this missive finds you all in the rudest of health and the highest of spirits despite the seasonal chill that blights this land. And possibly the Americas too, I am uncertain. I had high hopes that this new technology would find a way to end the cold winters of my youth, but regrettably they continue unabated. Global warming my left foot.
But it is not environmental policy I wish to discuss with you all today. It is the orient. I believe at some point in the not too distant past, our very own J.D. Falksen wrote a series of articles relating to steampunk across a variety of cultures, one of these I believe was Japan and China. Sadly I am unable to locate a copy of this essay, despite my best efforts. I do wonder if one of my fellows would be able to send me one of those hyper-links to this work? I would also be very interested in hearing the thoughts of others on this matter, whether they be in essay format or less formal manner.
Seasons greetings from England,
Professor Zarkov
